FEMA Preparedness Information
=======================

There is NO generic "One Plan fits ALL" program, each persons situation will vary due to many variables that have to be considered. The more organized your PLAN the easier it will be to impliment during an EMERGENCY !

When you are preparing your PLAN it is best if Everyone who will be involved be an active participant from the very beginning. If the PLAN is just for you, then you can put it together alone, but in most cases the PLAN will be for a FAMILY or other GROUP of people who will ALL have a part in Any PLAN.

Determine how many people will be involved in the PLAN.
Once that has been decided you need to make arrangements for everyone who will be involved to get together to discuss what should be covered and who should be responsible for every aspect as the PLAN is Developed.
A Well Organized PLAN is the KEY to the overall success in SURVIVAL in an EMERGENCY Situation If there are ANY problems in developing a PLAN then it will be reflected if and when it comes time to activate it !

YOU know about the Major concerns that can occur in your area and Your PLAN should be crafted in such a way to address the problems that could occur in an EMERGENCY in the area where you live. Use a MAP like the one above to help you if necessary. Remember however that you cannot lock into only one scenerio. For instance if you are located in area that is prone to Floods you may also experience Severe Snow events or other weather that could result in long term electical failure. This is an area where the GROUP shoul BRAINSTORM possible scenerios to be Prepared for. What is the plan if a major water main breaks and you are without potable water for days? Read up on some of the materials in the reference section for additional help.

Survival SUPPLIES
=============

It is best to put two disaster kits together: one for Evacuation (Bail Out) situations where you have to leave in a hurry, and another for the house (Hunker Down). The kit for the road should include enough supplies for 2-3 days, and the kit for the house should include enough supplies for 5-7 days (For EACH Person in your PLAN!). Make a LIST to compare so that as you put everything together you can check it off and there will be NO SURPRISES later! Not everything on the list needs to be duplicated for EACH person, but there should be an adequate supply for everyone if needed. The Most Important Items are WATER (1 gallon per day per person) and FOOD (2000 - 2400 calories MINIMUM per person per day). This will allow a person to work and deal with high stress for a while. If there is a situation where the calories intake are too low for too long it can lead to other health related issues.
You do NOT want to put this off too long or you will find yourself right in the position you are trying to avoid...last minute details. If you have ever had to deal with people in a Supermarket just before a storm hits, you will understand. When usually calm normal people find themselves in a situation without the necessary supplies and looking at empty shelves in a crowded Market...well let's just say it might NOT be a pretty sight. 2 People fighting for the last bottle of water on the shelf is NOT a sight you want to remember!

Step #1 in an Effective Survival program is a SOLID and Thought Out PLAN

Can you image your Family in this situation?

The actual storm has come and gone, leaving only a signature of damage across what only yesterday was a thriving neighborhood .

Besides the obvious mess, how are you set as far as Flood Insurance and Homeowners? Do you have a place to stay for...a few days?, a few weeks, months? The store shelves will be bare, have you made plans for food and water? For how long? Are ALL of your family member aware of what to do if something like this happens? Does everyone know to TEXT instead of trying to use the cell phone?
